Managed to get along to the Forces Festival in Bulford today after a colleague secured some Press Passes to enable us to get a lot closer to the 'action'.

I've never had the opportunity to shoot bands before so was keen to get along to find out the foundational elements of covering a gig. I figured it would be not a hundred miles away from the various sporting events I've been at recently as although the action is uncontrolled there is a definite area in which it unfolds.

Fortunately for me the three bands I stayed to cover had wildly differing approaches to their performances - I didn't even break out my memory cards for the first act - Not Dead Yet - as I was underwhelmed by their lack of energy and approach to their own act, although to be fair they were of pensioner age (then again so are The 'Stones, and they push out a pretty energetic set....)

Next up was local band The Vooz who got me scrabbling for my cameras and a spot in front of the stage - lead singer Lee Matthews obviously enjoys his craft and was a joy to photograph due to his energy and enthusiasm despite the relatively low crowds there on the day (no reflection on the band and I would urge anyone to get along to one of their gigs to enjoy the spectacle).

Last up for me was The Porn Issue who provided a much more sedate set than the Vooz but one which enabled me to get some nicely crafted images of the guys.

Have a browse and see what you think, as always comments welcome.
